Washburn Area Dollars for Scholars was organized in 1993 by a committee of eight dedicated volunteers.  In that first year, Dollars for Scholars gave three scholarships.  Since then, Washburn Area Dollars for Scholars has awarded 503 scholarships totaling over $396,750.00 to more than 100 high school graduates & alumni.

Securing funds for scholarships is a year-round commitment that we take very seriously.  We strive to maintain a presence at all school and community events and include various fundraisers throughout the year:

Fall means a call from the Washburn Area Dollars for Scholars phone-a-thon. With the help of student volunteers, residents and alumni are contacted updating them on the Dollars for Scholars giving opportunities.

Winter  means Dinner & Dancing!  Volunteers and students transform our local Memorial Building into a winter escape; every year bringing a new adventure.  Students decorate, serve and entertain attendees while accumulating volunteer hours, a major component of our scholarship program.

Spring brings GRADUATION!  The culmination of our fundraising efforts with the awarding of scholarships to graduating seniors and alumni.

Instrumental in the inception of our chapter was the initiative, encouragement and financial support of the community, business partners and the dedication of many volunteers. Without the ongoing support of them, we would not exist.
